Depth 20". Containing approx. 200 butterfly, moth and insect specimens. Label reading Watkins and Doncaster, Naturalists, 36 strand, London. Fitted with 24 display drawers. Watkins & Doncaster moved to the 36 Strand location in 1879. Single door adorned with inset relief carved mahogany visage and applied full relief carved mahogany profiles adorn side panels.
Central fixture on front panel unattached, locking mechanism is missing, moderate degree of nicks/scuffs to surface. CP Gorgeous cabinet, well made. Drawers have fine dovetailing and workmanship. The cabinet is mahogany with two lacquer inset door panels. Butterflies and insects are in generally good condition, however some have deteriorated, overall condition of insects and b-flies is good. really a wonderful collection in good state of preservation. jw
