REMBRANDT VAN RIJN (DUTCH, 1606-69), DRYPOINT ETCHING, ON JAPAN PAPER, H 2.6", W 6.85", LANDSCAPE WITH A MILKMAN (VIEW OF THE DIEMERDIJK WITH A MILKMAN AND COTTAGES)
Drypoint etching, circa 1650, on Japan paper, a fine, delicate impression of New Hollstein's third and final state, White and Boon's second and final state, unevenly trimmed with thread margins along three sides and a narrow margin along the bottom. Impressions of this subject are relatively rare at auction. (B., Holl. 213; H. 242; New Holl. 255) Plate H 2.6" W 6.85" Sheet H 2.8" W 6.9"
Good; UV-tested, with the sheet toned, pale scattered foxing, some surface soiling, stray pencil notations verso, hinged in the upper right and left corners, a few small areas of skillful restoration (the largest measuring 1/4 x 2in along the extreme upper sheet edge), possibly reinforced verso due to the delicate nature of the paper.
